With the blessings of His Holiness Satguru Jagjit Singh ji, Sarabjit (Sunny) Singh began his training in tabla at very young age. Initially, Sunny started training with Ustad Satwant Singh who gave him a strong foundation in the art of Tabla playing. To this day, he continues to learn under the able guidance of Tabla maestro Pandit Yogesh Samsi, an eminent player of the Punjab Gharana. Learning from such masters has enabled Sunny to understand the intricacies of solo tabla performances, as well as understand the finer nuances of accompanying other musicians.
Sunny has been privileged to accompany living legends such as Pandit Jasraj, Ustad Shahid Parvez, Ustad Irshad Khan, Pandit Ramesh Mishra, and many other reputable musicians from the Indian Classical music tradition.
Growing up in Vancouver, Canada Sunny has also performed for many concerts and festivals and has participated in many bands/groups that include Persian, African, Latin, Flamenco, Carnatic and Jazz ensembles. In addition, Sunny has also performed for audiences in US, UK and India.
Apart from performing, Sunny has taught Tabla at various institutes throughout Vancouver and is a dedicated teacher, inspiring young children and students of all ages to learn Tabla and explore it as an art-form. While actively pursuing his passion for learning and playing Tabla, Sunny has also completed Finance and Accounting degrees. Sunny currently resides in Surrey, BC and is much sought after as a solo performer, recording artiste, accompanist, and teacher.
